Manuel Da Luz Gonçalves

An educator, professor, counselor, and community advocate dedicated to preserving
and promoting Cape Verdean culture and the Kriolu language.  As a distinguished
lecturer, he has taught Kriolu at several universities. 
Gonçalves co-authored the language manual "Pa Nu Papia Kriolu" and is the founder and 
president of the Cape Verdean Creole Institute.

He established Mili Mila Inc., which
publishes language resources, including the Cape Verdean Creole-English
Dictionary (2016) and translated the first English to Kriolu children book, "Tiagu and
Vovo"(2023) by Djofa Tavares. In 2024, he launched the Speak Kriolu App. His most
recent published work, , the first of its kind English to Kriolu Capeverdean Dictionary,
launched in 2025. His contributions have earned him the Medal of Volcano and the
Medal of Merit from the Cape Verdean government.
